Ghost flowers produce no sweet nectar,
yet they attract so many male honeybees.
How can this be? The answer is simple.
Mimicry. They adapted to appear similar
to the beautiful, nectar filled Sand
Blazing Star. The ghost flower, not to be
outdone, painted her petals with the sweet
shape of the female honeybee. Smart little
flowers. They know the male species is easily
seduced. It's not until later the excited honeybee
realizes he's been duped. Too late. Pollination
has induced. But it's Blazing Star that still
holds all the beauty. Her petals are softer
and her nectar holds no secret trickery. She
stands in her truth. Without mimicry.
