1,000 Years

On the other side of the hill
Lives a girl
Writing a love song
She hopes her lover
Will soon hear
Eyes that color
Changing with her mood
Sitting alone to ponder
Will he even recognize her

Just the other day
His heart skipped a beat
A melody
Faint
Flitting and fleet

1,000 years
Almost to the day
Two young lovers
Forced to part their way

Before he left her
Standing on that
Craggily cliff
He bent down
Kissed her softly on the cheek
Whispering a promise
So true
So sweet
"1,000 times a lifetime
I'll hear your song.  I'll
find you before your day
becomes too long."

Irish Brogue Love Song

He stepped off the ship speaking little English; Irish brogue
rough and thick.  Far from his homeland.  Little money
in his hand.  He was determined to make his way.  Plowing
fields at night; merchant by day.

She was a Shawnee princess.  Or at least that's
how he saw her.  When he first saw her.  Perpetual
tan.  Rosy cheeks.  Her step was light.  With her came
the sun that hadn't been seen in weeks.

A love forbidden on the outset.  But a heart set on
a jewel will quickly banish society's foolishness.  He
set out to woo her.  She couldn't understand him but she
surely felt a flutter.

He gambled his heart and whisked her away.  Ohio valley
shining.  He taught her to sing.  Two hearts pining.
Irish brogue love song.  Singing "To LaRue".  Making a
family new.

Great grand parents before me.  Their love still shining.
